Real World Technology:

This course teaches ALL students the fundamental computer skills and etiquette necessary to succeed in the 21rst Century, whether entering post-secondary education, the military, or the work force after high school graduation.  Students will demonstrate proficiency in: 

  1. The mastery of keyboarding skills  
  2. Basic computer upkeep such as installing and maintaining virus controls, updating software, and accessing external devices such as digital cameras, probes, printers, and scanners. 
  3. Effectively using an operating system with files, folders, and shortcuts. 
  4. Competently employing word processing software to create a multi-page document demonstrating the use of formatting to change margins, add page numbers, footnotes, etc.  Also demonstrating the effective use of both the spell check and grammar checks and knowing their limitations.
  5. Creating a document merging two or more documents or the use of a database with a document.
  6. Creating a spreadsheet by entering data and functions to manipulate and process data, as well as generating charts and graphs.
  7. Designing and creating a multimedia project using text, graphics, moving images and sound.
  8. Creating a database, defining fields, demonstrating how to sort and query, and producing a report which interprets the data.
  9. Modeling legal and ethical behaviors when using information accessed from the Internet by properly filtering, selecting, verifying, acquiring, and citing sources to avoid plagiarism.  Demonstrating when, how, and where to safely download files from the Internet.
  10. Demonstrating the ability to create unique items such as banners, tri-fold brochures, and graphs and charts.
  11. Demonstrating acceptable email and social network etiquette to stop spam and cyber bullying.  This includes the pros and cons of employing social networking for job exploration.

 

Technology 2/AP Computer Science Principles: (Prerequisite- Real World Technology)

Technology 2/AP Computer Science Principles is a fun and rigorous course that will further delve into computer creativity and abstraction, programming & algorithms, advanced software skills, graphic design & animation, as well as give you the chance to pursue your own specific technological interests. Previous students have pursued areas including Web Design, Mobile App development, Intermediate/Advanced 3D modeling and animation techniques, Photography & Digital Imaging, Programming, Networking & Computer Architecture, Electronics and the “Internet of Things,” Digital Music making, Video, and much more! RWT2/APCSP will provide you with advanced 21st century skills that will set you apart from your peers as you pursue your post-secondary educational and professional goals. You will learn project management, time management, and will also provide you with the opportunity to develop college-level academic skills that will not only impress college admissions officers, but prepare you to rise to the top as a leader in an increasingly competitive job market.
